Two arrested, including gold jewelery worth Rs 4.16 crore at Chandigarh International Airport
On Monday, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department on Chandigarh International Airport arrested two people with a diamond and gold jewelery worth Rs 4.16 crore without documents. This is the third major recovery of Mobile Wing Chandigarh after GST is implemented. It reached the Chandigarh airport with the flights of Mumbai-Chandigarh.
These traders have been identified as Neeraj Bakuleesh Jhaveri and Rushan Ramesh Mehta. In the interrogation of both the officials, they have said themselves as Muljim of Blue India Private Limited, Mumbai. Assistant Commissioner Excise and Taxation, a team led by mobile wing Shalin Walia, was informed that two people are coming from Mumbai with diamonds.
When the Mumbai-bound flight reached the airport on Monday afternoon, both of the traders were scared and the suspicions of the officers turned into a doubt. Both the flight descendants got caught by the Excise Department team and started investigating them by entering the DDR in the airport’s police station. In the team, STO Navjot Singh, Ashok Shaltar Bhavna Handa, Rajneesh Batra and SHO HS Force of Airport Police were present.
The two traders caught by the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department claimed that they have come here from Mumbai to show jewelry to diamond and gold shopkeepers of Mohali, but when the excise department demands proper documents for jewelery from the traders, they do not present it. Found The department has issued notice under section 129 of the SGST CGST Act. Under this, penalty will be imposed. The matter is being investigated by the Income Tax Department.
